Asthma and Chiropractic Care in Kelowna

Chiropractic care does not treat asthma and its related symptoms! However, many of our practice members find relief from their asthma, and can even decrease their medication and in some cases even completely stop the medication use.

There are many causes of asthma, from chemical and environmental irritants, to different allergens that are found in the homes of many North Americans. So why does one person react differently to these allergens than their brother who lives in the exact same environment?

Well the answer comes in terms of the nervous system. If there is subluxation and pressure on the nerves that link directly to the immune system and respiratory system, then the body creates the symptoms of shortness of breath, wheezing, and other asthma related symptoms.

In the past two years I had started to feel that my age was affecting my general health. As a physically active 53 year old I was feeling the wear and tear on my body. I was only sleeping 4 to 5 hours a night as I was being awakened by terrible neck pain.

I was always feeling heaviness in my chest and shoulder area and I was taking a lot of pills to kill the pain. I had actually started to curtail my physical activities due to the pain.

This past fall I had a chance meeting with Dr. Travis Pillipow a chiropractor in West Kelowna. It was his enthusiasm about the benefits of seeing a chiropractor that led to our discussion of my issues.

In that discussion he explained how a bad fall can throw the body out of alignment. I mentioned a trail bike accident I had taken in Gallagher’s Canyon the previous year and he recommended a consultation.

I booked an appointment at his Health in Hand office and I was pleasantly surprised with the approach. After an intensive consultation he shared with me the issues with my body and my personal body alignment. A plan was implemented.

After the first session I felt like a new man. That evening I slept a solid 9 hours and my wife mentioned that I had stopped snoring.

In the ensuing days I felt that I was standing straighter and breathing better. My nightly sleep settled in at seven hours and in the past week I have not taken any pain killers.

The initial benefits have been tremendous and I look forward to the continuation of the planned program. In fact yesterday I began a new workout regime and went for a long walk without any of my previous issues.
